Pregnant Woman Hit and Killed at Bus Stop

On Thursday, May 26, a pregnant woman was hit and killed at a bus stop in southwest Atlanta.

According to Atlanta police, the accident happened just before 5 p.m. when 22 year old Keanna Shields was waiting at the bus stop at Amal Drive and Pryor Road.

A white Toyota pickup, being driven north on Pryor Road by 58 year old Eddie Haynie suddenly lost control. He did not stop at the intersection with Amal drive and collided with a Chevrolet Suburban and then ran off the road and hit Shields who was dragged by the pickup into a field behind the bus stop. The truck stopped at the tree line and Haynie was found unresponsive on the floor on the passenger side and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Shields and her unborn child, a girl who was due in July, were declared dead at the scene. She had only been married for two weeks and was planning her baby shower for the following Saturday.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and police are working to determine what caused Haynie to drive so erratically.
