What to do When you See an Emergency Vehicle

Most of us know that if an emergency vehicle is behind you with sirens blaring or lights flashing you should safety pull over to the side of the road and let them pass. But what about if the emergency vehicle is coming towards you in the opposite direction, should you stop, or should you carry on going?

Some States require you to pull over and stop even if the emergency vehicle is coming towards you in the opposite lane and this is because the goal of the emergency services is to bypass traffic as quickly as possible. Navigating an emergency vehicle through heavy traffic is dangerous, but if all the vehicles are stopped that danger is greatly reduced. If some vehicles keep moving even if this is slowly, it reduces the emergency driver’s choices for which route to take as they have to drive more cautiously and slowly. In a life or death situation those few seconds can make all the difference. So where you can’t pull over to the side of the road, like when you are on a multi-lane highway or at a busy intersection, just stop and let the emergency vehicle decide on the safest route.

Deadly Crash of Tractor Trailer

Early on Wednesday morning, December 15, there was a deadly crash involving a tractor trailer in Hall County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened just before 6 a.m. on the I 985 near the Plainview Road overpass. The truck was traveling north and while going around a curve it ran off the highway and into the median. The truck then hit a guardrail, swerved back across the highway and overturned. As it overturned it struck another guardrail and a bridge support. The driver, 49 year old Brian Seven Zegarzewski of Fletcher in North Carolina was thrown from the cab and killed.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly after arriving at the scene.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate were closed between exit 12 and exit 17 following the crash as the highway was blocked with crews working to upright the truck and remove the wreckage.

Defective Roadway Accidents

Discovering that your auto accident or injuries were caused by a roadway defect is a game changer. We have to move fast because you must now bring a claim against a government entity, and that shortens the amount of time you have to take legal action by half or more.

That is just one reason you should contact us right away if you have been injured in an accident. It is not always obvious that a defective roadway is involved, and is often only revealed upon our thorough investigation of your accident.

Suing a Government Entity in Georgia

Although the statute of limitations for personal injury is two years in Georgia, you must ante litem notice of your intent to sue a government entity. Ante Litem is Latin for “before litigation”.

If you are suing a municipality, you only have six months to give notice. If you are suing the state, you have 12 months. Then, after you give notice, you are still subject to the statute of limitations which is the time limit for filing your lawsuit.

Our Atlanta accident attorneys can protect your claim by making sure that your ante litem notice is submitted on time and properly. Please, do not miss out on the compensation that you and your family need by assuming that you have plenty of time to get started on your case and waiting too long to contact us so that we can start our investigation.
